Overview

The Antico Ristoro di Cambi, nestled in the heart of Florence at Via Sant'Onofrio, offers a genuine slice of Tuscan culinary tradition. This unassuming trattoria presents a menu rooted in time-honored recipes, where the centerpiece is undoubtedly the Florentine steak—locally known as La Bistecca Fiorentina. Renowned for its perfect balance of tenderness and rich, buttery fat, the steak melts in your mouth, a fact repeatedly praised by diners who have experienced its impeccable preparation firsthand.

Beyond the steak, the kitchen excels in rustic Tuscan fare with standout dishes like Porcini Mushrooms with Potatoes and the comforting Ribollita soup, each bite evoking deep regional flavors. The Antipasto Misto Toscano offers a vibrant introduction to the local charcuterie and cheeses, while specialties like Roasted Veal Stuffed with Artichokes and Bacon highlight the chef’s attention to layering savory complexity.

The restaurant’s setting enhances the overall experience. Its patio dining invites guests to savor meals al fresco, soaking in the ambiance of Florence's Oltrarno district. This area embodies the city’s authentic spirit, away from tourist-heavy spots, making it a beloved locale for both locals and travelers seeking true Tuscan hospitality. The atmosphere inside maintains a lived-in, welcoming feel—a classic trattoria where the focus remains squarely on the food and the craft behind it.

For those with dietary considerations, the thoughtful inclusion of gluten-free options such as bread and pasta dishes ensures broader accessibility without compromising authenticity. Complementing the food is a curated wine selection that pairs perfectly with the robust flavors presented, reinforcing the full Tuscan experience.

The Antico Ristoro di Cambi is best suited for food lovers who appreciate honest, carefully crafted regional cuisine. Whether you choose a simple starter like Bruschetta with Chicken Liver Paté or indulge in desserts such as the delicate Crema Catalana, the meal becomes a celebration of Toscana’s culinary soul. We ate on the patio and really enjoyed it! The food was good! Star of the show for us was the Fried Zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta and shockingly the potatoes. Service was ok, our guy seemed flustered so we tried not to hold his curt behavior against him.

I can’t even explain into words how incredible this experience was. I’m still in complete shock. The cheese was amazing. Wine was great. Potatoes so good. But the steak. The steak needs a moment. The steak was a melt in your mouth absolutely incredible. Perfectly cooked. The fat was ljke butter too. One of the absolute best I’ve ever had. We sat right next to where they were prepping everything and just watching the love that they have for this made it even better. I will be back to Florence just to eat here again. This place reviews should be 10 stars.

A classic Oltrarno trattoria that gets straight to the point: simple Tuscan cooking done with confidence and zero pretension. We started with anchovies from the Cantabrian Sea, served with butter and toasted bread; a salty, silky opener that set the tone for the whole meal. The pastas were exactly what you hope for in Florence. The hand-made pici with cinta senese pork ragù came out hearty and rustic, while the hand-made pappardelle with wild boar ragù leaned deep and earthy, the kind of slow-cooked sauce that feels like it’s been perfected over generations. Both were the sort of dishes that make you pause mid-bite just to appreciate the work that went into them. For something truly traditional, the lampredotto with green sauce arrived in a copper pot; soft, rich, and unapologetically Florentine. Not a tourist-friendly novelty, but a real taste of the city’s culinary backbone, especially when paired with that bright salsa verde. Dessert closed things out on a high note with a tiramisu that was light, creamy, and not overly sweet, just simple and exactly right. Generous portions, fair pricing, and that lived-in trattoria atmosphere make this a solid stop on the Oltrarno side of the river. It’s the kind of place where Florence feels like itself, not a performance.

Probably one of the best restaurants in Florence. Authentic. Inexpensive in comparison to the touristy places. Everything we had was delicious. Even the dessert, forgot to image. Should have come here every night of our stay would have enjoyed more and not spend a fortune at the other places. Highly recommend!

So happy that we found this place at the last minute. They had gluten free bread and it was super yummy. They serve is grilled. We also asked for some olive oil and I was above the clouds. My partner had the wild boar pasta and I wanted to order ossobuco but it wasn’t gluten free so they recommended me the stracotta. It was divine. The food, the service, everything was amazing. We sat outside which was a better choice. I went inside to use the bathroom and it was white noise for our liking. Highly recommend this place.

Had a great overall experience here. Beautiful wines to go with my steak florentine. The green beans and tomatoes were best ever. Loved them. I did not think I could finish the steak but I did. Proof below. Beautiful wooden covered patio and attentive service. Thank you.
